Celebrate the coming of Spring in community and culture by learning the techniques of Slavic egg-painting and joining a unique workshop on the ancient women's folk tradition of Ukrainian Spring Dance Songs, (no singing experience necessary). These events are held as a fundraiser for NYC-based organization Razom for Ukraine. They can be attended separately or in combination.
In this exciting 2-part workshop you'll journey into the sights, sounds, customs and sensations of ancient - and contemporary! - Ukraine at the opening of Spring.
Pysanky (egg decorating) and vesnianky (a repertoire of women's spring-calling "dance songs") both date to pre-Christian times. These unique traditions have remained important cultural and seasonal touchstones across the centuries in Ukraine, and experience a blossoming of international popularity and recognition in the 21st.
GUEST ARTIST: NYC-based Laryssa Czebiniak is a Ukrainian diaspora community leader locally and abroad, specializing in the arts of pysanky and Ukrainian choral and folk singing traditions, both of which she has been steeped in since childhood.
